Hello

I am Dr. Bhim Ghelot, a 62-year-old medical doctor and sonologist from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. My diabetes was detected unexpectedly during a routine check-up, without any major symptoms. With a family history of diabetes, I knew I needed to take my health seriously. When I joined FFD, I was taking diabetes medicines, but I wanted to explore whether lifestyle changes could help me manage my condition and reduce my dependence on medication. My journey helped me lose around 6–7 kg, bring my HbA1c down to 4.9 and become medicine-free within a few months. Today, I continue working towards better control of my fasting sugar, BP and cholesterol through lifestyle changes.

My Diabetes Story

I am a medical doctor and sonologist, so I understand the importance of keeping a close watch on health.

Interestingly, I did not have any symptoms when my diabetes was detected. It was picked up during a routine blood sugar test.

I also have a family history of diabetes. My father had diabetes, so I was aware of my risk.

When I joined FFD, my main thought was that I wanted to manage my diabetes properly and, if possible, avoid long-term dependence on medicines.

At that time, I was taking diabetes medicines. My total medication intake was around 1,005 mg per day.

My HbA1c was 6 while I was on medication.

I wanted to understand what lifestyle changes could do for me and whether I could manage my diabetes in a better way.

How FFD Was Introduced to Me

I first came across Dr. Pramod Tripathi’s videos on YouTube. I had also heard about FFD from Dr. B. M. Hegde. These made me curious about the FFD approach.

What appealed to me was the possibility of managing diabetes through lifestyle and reducing dependence on medicines.

I decided to join because I wanted to take control of my health rather than simply continue with medication.

My Reversal Journey

When I started my FFD journey, my HbA1c was  6 while I was taking medicines.

I joined in August 2025, with the intention of improving my health and eventually reducing my dependence on medication.
  •  HbA1c: Below 6 to 4.9
  •  Weight: 69–70 Kg to 63 Kg
  •  Weight loss: Approximately 6–7 Kg
  •  Diabetes medication at joining: Around 1,005 mg/day
  •  Diabetes medicines: Stopped by the end of November 2025
  •  SGOT-SGPT Ratio: 3.0 to 0.82
  •  Triglyceride/HDL Ratio: 2.42 to 1.53

Initially, I experienced some weakness, but that gradually improved. As I continued with the programme, I also achieved the weight reduction I had wanted.

One of the biggest milestones was becoming free from diabetes medicines by the end of November 2025.

My HbA1c subsequently came down to 4.9, which gave me confidence that the lifestyle changes were having a positive impact.

At the same time, I want to be realistic about where I am today. My fasting sugar is still on the higher side, generally around 110–130 mg/dL.

I feel that different types of stress also play a role in keeping my fasting sugar elevated. So, this is an area I continue to work on rather than considering my journey complete.

My other health markers have also shown encouraging changes.

My SGOT-SGPT ratio, which was around 3, came down to 0.82. My triglyceride/HDL ratio improved from 2.42 to 1.53.

My total cholesterol, however, is something I still want to improve.

Earlier, it was generally around 140–148, while my latest value was around 179.

I also want to work towards better BP and cholesterol control without medicines through appropriate lifestyle changes.

I have not followed every aspect of the programme perfectly, particularly the exercise routine and dietary pattern.

But the results I have achieved so far have motivated me to become more regular and consistent.

Athletic Identity

I would not describe myself as someone with a fixed athletic identity yet, but I have started incorporating several forms of physical activity into my routine.

At present, I exercise around two to three times a week.

At home, I do muscle-strengthening exercises using dumbbells, a trimmer and resistance bands. I also use a static cycle.

I have gradually made stairs a part of my routine as well.

Depending on the day, I can do anywhere from around 40 to 150 stairs.

I also make it a point to walk for around 20–40 minutes after dinner on most days.

Apart from planned exercise, I keep myself active through everyday household activities such as watering plants, cleaning the car and other routine work.

These activities help me avoid being sedentary.

My next goal is to become more regular with exercise and build greater consistency into my routine.

Fast For Freedom Experience

I did not participate in the nine-day Fast for Freedom challenge. My journey has primarily revolved around improving my food habits, increasing daily movement and working towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

Inner Transformation

I have not undergone an Inner Transformation session so far. Time constraints and other factors have kept me away from this part of the programme.

However, I understand that stress management and inner transformation are important aspects of long-term health.

I am also aware that different types of stress can influence my fasting sugar, so this is an area I would like to work on when I am able to give it the necessary time and attention.

For now, my focus is on becoming more consistent with exercise, managing stress better and continuing to make practical lifestyle improvements.

Current Lifestyle & Reflection

Today, I feel better than I did when I started. The weakness I experienced initially has improved, and losing around 6–7 kg has been an important achievement for me.

I am now medicine-free for diabetes, but I do not look at that as the end of the journey.

My fasting sugar is still between 110 and 130 mg/dL, and I want to bring it under better control.

I also want to improve my BP and cholesterol through lifestyle changes rather than medicines, wherever medically appropriate.
  • Strength training 2–3 times a week
  • Static cycling
  • 20–40 minutes of walking after dinner
  • Climbing stairs (around 40–150 stairs depending on the day)
  • Staying active through household work such as watering plants and cleaning the car

My goal now is to make exercise more regular and consistent.

I have realised that lifestyle change does not mean doing everything perfectly from day one.

What matters is continuing to work towards better habits and staying committed to the process.

My FFD journey has given me confidence that diabetes can be managed and that meaningful health improvements are possible. It has also made me more aware of the areas where I still need to improve.

I want to continue working on my fitness, fasting sugar, BP, cholesterol and stress management and make these improvements a sustainable part of my life.
