Hello All,

I am Mr. R. Shrikanth, 66, from Chennai. I have been living with Type 2 diabetes since 2011, but for many years, my sugar levels were not alarming enough for me to take medication seriously. That changed when my fasting sugar suddenly touched 250 mg/dL. I knew I could no longer ignore it. I discovered Freedom From Diabetes through Instagram and decided to take control through food, exercise and a structured lifestyle. Today, I have lost 8 kg, brought my HbA1c from 6.5% to 6.0%, and continue to manage my diabetes without tablets.

My Diabetes Story

I have had diabetes since 2011. Initially, my sugar levels were not very alarming.

My fasting sugar was usually around 120–130 mg/dL, while my post-meal reading was around 180 mg/dL.

I was not taking diabetes medicines and was managing my food intake. I would sometimes use cinnamon powder as part of my routine.

However, one day my fasting sugar suddenly increased to 250 mg/dL.

That was the moment I realised that I could not continue taking my diabetes lightly.

Although I did not consider my condition severe or complicated, I knew I needed to make changes before the situation progressed.

I also have diabetes in my family. Both my sisters have diabetes, and my brother has it as well.

My parents were older and were never regularly tested, so I cannot say for certain whether they had diabetes.

One of the symptoms I experienced was frequent urination at night, which affected my sleep.

Even today, it occurs occasionally, but it is much more controlled than before.

How I Found FFD

I came across Freedom From Diabetes while scrolling through Instagram.

I saw Dr. Pramod Tripathi and, without any personal referral, decided to explore the programme.

There was no complicated reason behind my decision.

My fasting sugar had suddenly touched 250 mg/dL, and I felt it was time to do something seriously about my health.

That is when I joined FFD.

My Reversal Journey

When I joined the programme, my HbA1c was 6.5%. Today, it is 6.0%.

My weight has also come down from 78 kg to 70 kg, which was the target suggested according to my height and BMI.

I have never taken diabetes tablets.

My approach has been centred around controlling my food and following the lifestyle guidance given through the programme.

My fasting sugar, which had once suddenly risen to 250 mg/dL, is now generally around 103–110 mg/dL, with 130 mg/dL mentioned as the maximum.

This has given me confidence that consistent food control can make a meaningful difference.

There has also been an improvement in my liver-related SGOT/SGPT ratio:

SGOT/SGPT Ratio: 1.09 → 0.76

When I joined, this marker was slightly elevated, and it is now much better controlled.

Overall, losing 8 kg while improving my sugar levels without diabetes medication has been a reassuring experience for me.

I have realised that I do not necessarily need complicated measures.

For me, consistent food restriction and following the right lifestyle have made the difference.

Athletic Identity

I would not call myself an athlete, but I have incorporated Yoga into my routine. I also practise 4 Surya Namaskars regularly.

I have learned that staying active does not always have to mean doing intense workouts.

For me, maintaining a simple and manageable exercise routine has become part of taking care of my health.

My journey has mainly focused on food control, lifestyle changes and maintaining consistency with the guidance provided through the programme.

Inner Transformation

My journey has been relatively straightforward from the mental-health perspective.

I did not feel the need for a separate psychology session, as I considered my diabetes to be a manageable situation rather than a severe or complicated condition.

The biggest change for me has been the confidence that comes from seeing my health parameters improve.

When I saw my sugar levels come under better control and my weight come down, it reinforced my belief that I could manage my health through consistent lifestyle choices.

Current Lifestyle & Reflection

Today, I am 70 kg, compared with 78 kg when I started.

My HbA1c has improved from 6.5% to 6.0%, and my fasting sugar is generally around 103–110 mg/dL.

I continue to manage my diabetes without tablets.

I have also seen improvement in my SGOT/SGPT ratio, which has come down from 1.09 to 0.76.

These changes have made me feel that I am moving in the right direction.

I am grateful for the guidance I received from the FFD team.

My experience has shown me that managing diabetes does not always have to be complicated.

With food control, regular activity and consistency, I have been able to make meaningful improvements in my health.

At 66, my focus is to continue maintaining these results and stay consistent with the lifestyle changes that have worked for me.
