I am Sushanta Banerjee, 77 years old, based in New Delhi. I am a consultant behavioral scientist and have spent over five decades working in individual, group, and organizational transformation.
I am an engineer from IIT Delhi, a management graduate from IIM, and India’s first independent consultant in behavioral sciences outside the academic system. My Diabetes Story

My diabetes journey began subtly. In my late 30s and early 40s, I noticed dark stains on my knuckles, a classic but often ignored sign of insulin resistance. At that time, tests were inconclusive, and like most people, I went through denial.

It was only around the age of 48–49, after a severe spondylosis episode, that diabetes was clearly diagnosed through blood tests.

By then, I had already begun practicing yoga and meditation seriously, which helped me maintain reasonable control for many years.

I also experienced non-physical symptoms energy drops and a psychological state called dissociation, where one feels disconnected from reality.

Being a behavioral scientist, I knew something deeper was at play.

Diabetes also ran in my family. My father had diabetes, though in those days it was often labelled “borderline.”

How FFD Was Introduced and What Made Me Choose It

I first heard about Freedom From Diabetes around 2013–14 from my students, who told me how much they had benefited.

At that time, I felt I was managing well enough with yoga, meditation, and medicines.

During COVID in 2021, I happened to come across an FFD seminar online.

What immediately struck me was the scientific rigor of the program, especially the integration of behavioral science with metabolic health.

What truly convinced me was that FFD acknowledged inner transformation as a legitimate scientific component of healing.

As someone who has worked in behavioral sciences for decades, this alignment made complete sense to me.

Since the program was online and well-structured, I decided to join.
 

Reversal Journey with FFD

I joined FFD around April 2021. Within six weeks, by mid-June, I received a message stating that my metformin could be stopped completely.

This was a turning point. I had been on increasing doses of metformin for years.

I had also begun to recognize that the medicine itself was causing side effects, something you become acutely aware of when you are sensitive to your body.

By June, diabetes medicines were completely stopped. I consider that month my second birthday.

Later, on my own initiative with careful observation I gradually reduced and stopped my blood pressure medicines and cholesterol medicines as well. Today, I am completely medicine-free.

The only times I briefly resumed metformin were during two minor surgeries, for 10–15 days each, after which it was stopped again.

By January 2022, I was completely free from diabetes, BP, and cholesterol medicines, something my doctor described as extraordinary at my age.

Inner Transformation & Conscious Living

I deeply resonated with FFD’s inner transformation work, especially the early-morning consciousness practices (Brahma Muhurta).

Scientifically speaking, early morning is when the body’s consciousness is most flexible and receptive.

Nature prepares the body hormonally for action and awareness. If used consciously, this time can literally rewire one’s internal systems.

FFD helped reconnect these practices with modern science. I practice this regularly and also teach it.

Food, Weight & Lifestyle Changes

Weight was not a major concern for me during FFD.

Before joining, I had already reduced my weight from 88 kg to 68 kg through lifestyle changes, including quitting meat and alcohol completely during COVID.

With FFD, my weight further stabilized around 62–63 kg.

More importantly, I became trimmer, fitter, and more energetic.

I now eat less, move more, and listen carefully to what my body communicates.

Athletic Identity

My athletic identity is a combination of yoga, meditation, gym workouts, and cycling.

I returned to cycling after 50 years and now cycle confidently on Delhi roads. I also work out regularly at the gym.

Despite physical challenges like hammer toes, I completed 108 Surya Namaskars using the Chair Surya Namaskar format with ease and joy.

Movement, for me, is not performance. It is communication with the body.

FFD Health Retreat (FHR)

FHR was a refreshing experience unlike any conference I had attended before. It combined learning, movement, playfulness, and community.

I was told I held the longest plank at the retreat and danced enthusiastically when asked because an instruction given with love deserves to be followed.

FFD creates an environment where discipline does not feel like punishment, but participation.

Current Lifestyle & Reflection

Today, at 77, I work more, feel sharper, fight less, and live with greater ease.

My approach was simple. I became a student again. No arguments. No debates. I followed instructions sincerely.

Healing, I believe, happens when we stop trying to control the body and start listening to it.
