Hello

I am Sunita Nikam, a 55-year-old homemaker from Kolhapur. For years, I tried different diets and went to the gym, but the weight simply would not come off. When I crossed 93 kg, I started feeling uncomfortable about my appearance and lost confidence around people. I knew I had to do something differently. After discovering FFD through Instagram, I first experienced the 9-day fasting programme and then decided to commit to the year-long journey. Today, I have lost more than 18.5 kg, improved my health markers and, most importantly, learned how to understand and take care of my own body.

Key Takeaways
  •  Lost 18.5 kg
  •  Weight: 93 kg to 75 kg
  •  HbA1c: 5.6 to 5.2
  •  Uric Acid: 7.8 to 5.1
  •  BMI: 35–36 to 29
  •  SGPT/SGOT Ratio: 1.6 to 0.93–0.84
  •  Participated in FFF multiple times
  •  Regular strength training, yoga and stamina exercises

My Diabetes Story

I did not join FFD because I had diabetes. My primary goal was weight loss.

I had been struggling with excess weight for a long time. I used to go to the gym, but despite exercising, I could never achieve the weight loss I wanted.

I had also tried different diets and taken help from dietitians, but the results never lasted.

When my weight went above 93 kg, I started becoming conscious of my appearance.

I felt that my face had become bigger and I had developed a double chin. I also felt less confident when I was around other people.

My daughter would often tell me to take better care of myself and encouraged me to exercise. I knew I was trying, but something was missing.

When I joined FFD, my HbA1c was 5.6, which was still in the non-diabetic range.

However, it made me realise that taking care of my health was important even before a bigger problem developed.

How I Found FFD

I first saw FFD on Instagram. I showed the programme to my daughter, and she researched it further.

I initially decided to participate in the 9-day fasting programme.

I lost around 3–3.5 kg during my first experience.

Although I regained about 1.5 kg later, the results gave me confidence that I could actually change my weight.

That experience motivated me to take the one-year programme.

I had already tried many approaches since 2008 without getting sustainable results, so this time I decided to follow the programme seriously.

My Reversal Journey

When I started my FFD journey, my main focus was to understand why my previous attempts had not worked and build habits that I could sustain.

My health parameters showed meaningful improvement during the journey:
  •  Weight: 93 kg to 74–75 kg
  •  Total Weight Loss: 18.5 kg
  •  HbA1c: 5.6 to 5.2
  •  Uric Acid: 7.8 to 5.1
  •  BMI: 35–36 to 29
  •  SGPT/SGOT Ratio: 1.6 to 0.93–0.84

One of the health concerns I had when I joined was elevated uric acid.

I was taking medication for it, and over the course of my journey, the level reduced from 7.8 to 5.1.

My SGPT/SGOT ratio also improved and came into the normal range.

But the biggest transformation was not just in my reports. It was in the way I approached food and exercise.

Earlier, I would exercise but could not control my weight.

With FFD, I learned how to manage my diet and make exercise a regular part of my routine.

I became more aware of what my body needed and how to respond when my routine was disturbed.

I also participated in the 9-day fasting programme multiple times.

During fasting, I noticed better control over my cravings and felt more in control of my eating.

Even during festivals, when it becomes difficult to follow the routine perfectly, I no longer feel lost.

I know what my body needs and, more importantly, I know how to get back on track.

Today, my focus has shifted from simply losing weight to becoming stronger and building muscle.

Fast For Freedom Experience

I have participated in the 9-day fasting programme several times, including five times before my most recent participation.

My first experience gave me a weight loss of around 3–3.5 kg. During another 7-day fasting experience, I lost around 2 kg.

Fasting also helped me understand my cravings better.

Earlier, I would feel sleepy and struggle with my routine. Now, I feel more aware of my body and better able to manage my eating.

Even when festivals disrupt my routine, I don't feel that everything is lost. I have learned that I can enjoy an occasion and then return to my routine.

Inner Transformation

My transformation was not limited to food and exercise. I also worked on my daily routine and mindset.

I had a session with Udita ma'am when I was struggling with my sleep routine.

I had developed a habit of sleeping late and found it difficult to establish consistency.

She listened to me, supported me and suggested techniques that could gradually help me build a healthier routine.

Meditation and pranayama have now become part of my life.

I understand that changing a habit takes time, and I am learning to stay consistent instead of expecting everything to change immediately.

This has helped me become more disciplined in my everyday life.

Athletic Identity

I have not yet discovered one particular athletic identity, but exercise has become a regular part of my lifestyle.

I now follow the routine prescribed by my experts:

  •  3 days of strength training
  •  2 days of yoga
  •  1 day of stamina training
  •  Nitric Oxide Dump
  •  Anti-gravity exercises

Earlier, I would frequently miss the gym. Today, exercise has become a regular part of my routine.

Current Lifestyle & Reflection

Today, I weigh around 74–75 kg, compared to more than 93 kg when I started. I have lost more than 15 kg and brought my BMI down from around 35–36 to 29.

The change is visible, but I feel the bigger change within myself. I am more confident, more disciplined and much more aware of my body's needs.

When I go out now, people notice the difference and ask me what happened because my transformation is so visible.

I feel good about the way I look, but more importantly, I feel that I have finally found an approach that I can sustain.

I am now entering the muscle-mass phase. After losing significant weight, my focus is shifting towards strength and building muscle through regular exercise.

I have also extended my programme because I want to continue working towards my next goal.

My dietitian has encouraged me to continue the journey, and I am determined to do it steadily.

I have gained not just weight loss, but knowledge. I can now understand my body better, make informed choices and share what I have learned with my family.

My daughter is also looking forward to joining the programme.

When I look back at all the things I tried since 2008, I feel grateful that I finally found an approach that gave me results I could see and sustain.
