My Diabetes Story
My diabetes was diagnosed in 2011 during a routine check-up. I do have a family history. My mother has diabetes.
For years, I managed it conventionally. I was taking one tablet (Glycomet) daily.
I exercised regularly, including jogging and even running marathons when I was abroad.
My HbA1c was usually around 7.1–7.5.

My HbA1c was usually around 7.1–7.5.
I was managing but I did not know I could reverse it further.
Why I Joined FFD
I came across FFD through Facebook and attended a webinar. I was open-minded. I did not join out of fear or desperation.
I simply thought “Let me give it a shot.” I didn’t know strict lifestyle protocols could bring HbA1c down into the 5s range.
My Reversal Journey
When I joined, my HbA1c was about 7.3.
Within three months of following the structured protocol, I was able to stop daily diabetes medication.
My HbA1c dropped to 5.9, and today I maintain it between 6.0–6.2 without regular diabetes medication.
I only take a tablet on an SOS basis if I significantly breach the protocol which rarely happens.
When I joined, I weighed 63 kg.
My lowest recorded weight during the program was 52 kg. I now maintain comfortably at 54–55 kg, with improved muscle mass.
Athletic Identity
Though I was always active, FFD pushed me to build strength. I joined a gym and began structured strength training.
At one point, I was deadlifting 65–70 kg. Currently, due to a uterus prolapse diagnosis, I avoid heavy lifting but continue strength training with moderate dumbbells.
I also practice yoga daily including:
- Headstands
- Shoulder stands
- Backbends
- Halasana
- 108 Surya Namaskars
At 62, I am flexible and strong and I take pride in that.
My Diet & Sustainability
During the program, I followed a fully vegan protocol. Today, I maintain a mostly dairy-free lifestyle, with occasional curd if required.
I strictly follow the 25% plate method:
- 25% salad
- 25% lentils/protein
- 25% vegetables
- 25% carbohydrates
I plan my weekly menu in advance. I eat home-cooked meals. I do not believe in cheat days.
Most importantly, I do not eat leftovers just to avoid waste. I tell people: “Your stomach is not a garbage bin.”
If there is extra food, I give it away. I don’t overeat to “finish it.”
