Winning awards is a very happy thing...always.  But winning over health is something else.  You are benefitted in 2 ways... health-wise plus appreciation, a double bonanza!

I got diagnosed with diabetes around 36 years ago in a medical checkup.  My father was on dialysis at that time. I was very young, just 24 years old.  At the age of 24, I had lot many challenges in my personal life too.

At that time, I was not aware my diabetes fell in the MODY category.  The news was pretty shocking.  I just could not digest the fact that I was diabetic though I have a family history of diabetes.

I too was started on anti-diabetic medications like others.  Just within 3 years, my doctor put me on insulin.  This was the saddest news.  Pricking injection at each mealtime at a young age was pretty painful, mentally as well as physically.

For the uninitiated, MODY stands for “Maturity-onset diabetes of the young” and was given that name in the past because it acted more like the adult type of diabetes (Type 2 Diabetes) but was found in young people.

Mr. Rakesh Khanna

MODY limits the body's ability to produce insulin but is different than the juvenile type of diabetes (Type 1 Diabetes).

So, my category of diabetes is difficult to handle.  And I am very much happy that I came to FFD and they helped me a lot.

The more duration of diabetes, the more problems.  I suffered from acidity, gases, tiredness, hypothyroid, frozen shoulder, and left eye retinopathy too.

Surgery-wise, I had to be operated on for left eye retinopathy in 1989 and a right eye cataract in February 2020.

Living with 36 years of diabetes was like living with it all my lifetime.I got to know about FFD through a past participant, Dr. Deepak who I knew already.

Information about FFD had given me a lot of hope and I joined HTP batch 56.  It was the best day of my life, I must say.

After joining, it took around 6 months to stop my insulin - 33 years of insulin stopped!  I am taking tablets for diabetes but that is not a problem at all.  I am free from the burden of insulin now.

I lost 10 kg of my weight but then was low on BMI.  So I was guided to put on the proper muscle weight and I put on 5 kg of healthy weight.

Now,  I am at 71 kg.  At FFD, I came to know what is a bad weight and what is a good weight.  This was very enriching knowledge.

Muktotsav is the annual event that FFDians look forward to each year.  I was awarded under the category of 'Miraculous Freedom Story' for becoming free of a maximum number of years of insulin, 33 years.

I am very happy with the reversal as not a single doctor was ready to help me out.  Now, I got a ray of hope at FFD.  Big thanks to Dr. Pramod.
