During the treatment, I was given steroids, and almost immediately my blood sugar levels shot up dramatically. One day my sugar reading reached 365, something I had never experienced before. Doctors initially believed the sugar spike was temporary and caused by steroids. However, even after the steroids were reduced, my sugar levels never fully returned to normal. Over time, diabetes became a permanent part of my life. I remained relatively controlled for a few years with HbA1c around 6.2–6.5, but gradually the condition worsened. Despite the fact that I had been walking regularly for more than 35 years, my sugars started rising. When I later took on the role of CEO, the pressure and stress of board meetings would often push my post-meal sugars above 300, even while I was on medication. Doctors tried different medicines and even expensive weekly injections, but my weight continued to increase and sugar control remained difficult.  How I Discovered FFD After retiring and moving to Gurgaon, my fasting sugars started increasing further, reaching 150–160. My wife became concerned and encouraged me to explore alternatives. Then her schoolmate’s husband had come from the US to attend a program with Dr. Pramod Tripathi. That made us curious. I attended the introductory FFD webinar, and the concept of addressing diabetes through comprehensive lifestyle change made sense to me. I decided it was worth giving it a try.  My Reversal Journey When I joined the program, my HbA1c was 8.4, and I was taking insulin along with multiple medicines. The changes started surprisingly fast. Within a month, my insulin stopped. Soon after, the other diabetes medicines were gradually discontinued as well. Within about two months, I was completely off diabetes medications. My HbA1c dropped to around 6.2, and I also experienced improvements in other health markers such as weight, thyroid medication dosage, and blood pressure. But the biggest learning was understanding how the body works as a connected system. For the first time in my 15 years with diabetes, someone explained that keeping triglycerides low can significantly help control blood sugar. No doctor had ever told me this before. That insight alone changed the way I think about health.  Athletic Identity During the program, I also returned to something I had loved earlier in life swimming. In my younger days, I was a competitive swimmer representing my school, college, and university. Through FFD, I restarted swimming and was able to swim more than 1.5 kilometres three times a week. Although health issues like sinusitis later interrupted this routine, I still remain active with walking, golf, and resistance exercises, and I plan to restart my complete fitness routine soon.  Current Lifestyle & Reflection Life after retirement includes wildlife photography, which often takes me to forests and remote locations for several days. During the early days of the program, I was extremely disciplined and even carried my own salads, ingredients, and khapli atta while travelling. While maintaining the routine perfectly during travel became challenging later, I continue to follow many of the key principles: Eating salad before meals Using khapli wheat instead of regular wheat Avoiding dairy products Maintaining awareness about food choices and triggers Even today, I strongly believe that if I return to the full routine consistently, my health markers will improve further.
